Patient care is a huge part of the work of a radiology technician so any volunteer work you can fit in during your summer vacations will help you succeed.
2) Get fit and healthy. Working in radiology means you will be on your feet all day as well as involved in lifting patients, moving equipment etc. This is a physical job and you may need to pass a medical depending on the schools you apply to. Being overweight and lacking in fitness will not help you to gain access to the degree program of your choice. So start doing something about this now, don’t leave it to the last minute.
3) Have you got up to date first aid and CPR certificates? If not, pass a Red Cross first aid course ASAP. CPR certification is valid for two years so if you need to recertify do so before you apply to school.

When you are reviewing the various radiology technician training schools you should first check that your course has been approved by the ARRT. The American Registry of Radiologist Technologists has a list of approved schools if you need to check if your favorite college is on it. They will review the tech school and judge it based on a number of things not only the curriculum covered but also the facilities on offer, the support offered to students as well as the success of pass students in achieving qualifications and jobs. If your chosen college isn’t on this list you may want to reconsider whether you want to go there.
What about mature students returning to study?
If you are a mature student who wishes to study to become a radiology technician there will be alternative entry requirements for you to meet. It may have been a while since your Sates but if you have achieved any other qualifications in the meantime these may be counted depending on their relevance. Experience in the medical field will also help.
